Murata Releases World’s First High Energy Density 1uF 100V MLCC in a 1608 Size

Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. has developed and started mass producing the GRM188D72A105KE01, a 1608M (1.6 x 0.8mm) size high energy density multilayer ceramic capacitor with the world’s largest capacitance of 1 µF and rated at 100 V for use in 48 V power supply lines in base stations, servers, and data centers. Samples are available.

With the increasing adoption of 5G technology, mobile data traffic is projected to increase dramatically, requiring base station infrastructure to become smaller in size, more lightweight, and lower in power consumption in order to expand 5G network coverage.

The number of circuit board components also continues to increase with the rise in multiple output power supply use, creating demand for device sizes to be maintained or made smaller and making it increasingly important for circuit boards to have higher component densities.

Murata’s proprietary thin layer technology has allowed for this product to be approximately 67% smaller in volume and 49% smaller in area than our 2012M size (GRM21BC72A105KE01) multilayer ceramic capacitors. This will allow the capacitor to take up less space on the circuit board.

Product name GRM188D72A105KE01
Size (L x W x T) 1.6mm×0.8mm×0.8mm
Capacitance 1µF
Operating temperature range ‐55~125℃
Temperature characteristics X7T (EIA)
Rated voltage 100Vdc
Durability 125℃, rated voltage x 150%, 1000 hours
