Bourns Unveils Thermally Protected MOV Surge Protective Devices

Bourns releases a new Thermally Protected Surge Protective Device (TPMOV) family which will significantly expand our current product line offering.

The Bourns® Model 1220 Series SPDs are PCB mounted TPMOVs which are surge suppressors with thermal protection designed to open in the event of overheating due to an abnormal overvoltage or Temporary Overvoltage (TOV) condition, interrupting any abnormal current that may be encountered up to rated limits.

These SPDs are intended to be installed at the front end of the installation, in the area of the main switchboard, close to sensitive terminals or in installations without LPS (Lightning Protection Systems, a.k.a. lightning rods).

The Model 1220 Series are general duty TPMOV SPDs with a maximum discharge current rating of 75 kA (8/20 μs). This series is UL recognized and complies with UL 1449 and IEC 61643-11 standards.

Features

  • Complies with UL 1449 and IEC/EN 61643-11 standards
  • UL recognized Type 4, Type 2 location SPD, passed short circuit current rating (SCCR) at 200 kA
  • High reliability protected MOV with Advanced Thermal Disconnector (TD+)
  • Compact size to save installation space
  • PCB mount design, compatible with reflow and wave soldering procedures
  • RoHS compliant

Applications

  • Surge protection devices
  • AC-DC distribution
  • All power circuits
  • Telecommunications
  • Built-in surge protection of electronic equipment
