Power Supply Efficiency Improvements at Low Load Conditions; WE Webinar

Performance of modern power supplies must demonstrate excellent efficiency at all power levels. Lear in this Würth Elektronik and NXP webinar how to improve power supply efficiency at low load conditions.

Traditionally, power supply efficiency is important for high power levels to reduce energy consumption of the overall application during normal operation.

To minimize the size and cost pf component and power supplies by operating at a lower temperature due to reduced losses in the power supply.

But more and more applications have become “smart” and run in different operation modes, even at lower power levels. Due to environmental objectives, energy consumption in standby mode has become a subject of legal requirements. And there is more competition between companies on showing how “green” their products are.

Selecting Efficient Passive Components will primarily delve into the discussion of various passive elements employed in power converters. It will also provide design tips and highlight their advantages compared to different technologies available in the market.

Agenda:

  1. Introduction to the importance of power supply efficiency – specially at low power loads (NXP)
  2. How can we achieve good efficiency at low loads in PFC+LLC power supply systems – using NXP control ICs (NXP)
  3. Laboratory bench demonstration of efficiency improvements and the interaction with output voltage ripple and audible noise (NXP)
  4. Design Considerations for LLC transformer
  5. Important Considerations for Leakage
  6. Overview of Traditional Bobbin PFC Series (WE-PFC) vs WE-TORPFC: New Toroidal PFC Chokes
  7. Advantages of Flat Wire vs Round Wire
